How to think like an Entrepreneur

Thinking like an entrepreneur is all about being flexible, brave and embracing change to try new approaches and create value. Entrepreneurs come in all shapes and sizes but there are some commonalities between those who fit into this category.

Entrepreneurs are open to new approaches and the risks that come with taking a step onto the road less travelled. They are emotionally prepared to fail, forgive themselves and dust themselves off again for another try.

They are also unafraid to explore different ideas. Brainstorming, speaking with new people and exploring the stories and personalities of all types of start-up founders and business leaders is one way to start to understand how to think in this way.

Are there different types of business mindsets?

Commonly, people refer to a “fixed mindset” or a “growth mindset” as the two main outlooks. While a “growth” mindset refers to someone who believes they can gain skills and improve over time, someone with a “fixed” perspective thinks the opposite and can be stuck and limited by their current knowledge and experience.

Entrepreneurs tend to fall into the growth mindset category as they continually strive to get better, increase their output and expand their horizons whenever possible.

What does it take to be an entrepreneur?

There are many different qualities entrepreneurs may have. Typically, this can include the following descriptions and characteristics: decisiveness, resilience, creativity, independence, imagination, drive and originality. While some entrepreneurs are natural risk takers, others have personalities that tend to be more averse to the unknown but with focus are able to take calculated risks.

Others are lucky to have an active imagination and a range of artistic pursuits. For others, this may require some additional effort. You can get your creativity flowing and improve your own entrepreneurial characteristics through a range of activities and methods. Journaling, painting, dancing and other forms of creative expression are good ways to give your artistic side room to develop more fully. This can enable you to look upon new challenges at work from a different perspective.
